Getting ready to open source my Android apps

I have decided to open source my 2 published Android applications (SMS Popup and Countdown Alarm). Why? Well firstly I'm a big proponent of open source software - but also I have been a little overwhelmed by the number of (good) feature requests for the apps and I honestly just don't have the time to implement all of them myself. So if anyone is interested in helping out, let me know! I'll post again once the code is cleaned up a little and ready to be added to a SVN repository.

I will also be trying to post up a few simple Android development tutorials over the coming weeks - mostly based around my apps. Hopefully this will spur other beginner developers to create some other cool and useful apps for Android.

  1. Adam,

That's really awesome of you! I imagine you've gotten a ton of responses back, especially from SMS Popup. I really think Google should pick up SMS Popup after you open source it. it's a great idea that should be built in to android imho..

That said, are you still planning other projects? Perhaps I may be interested in helping out. I work a normal 9-5 with a family to come home to, so writing android apps come a little lower in my priorities, but I do have some projects in various stages of development.

Well, let me know what you think, but well done so far on the apps, and looking forward to seeing more stuff from you!

  2. Hi Steve,

Thanks for the comments - at this stage I don't have any other projects in mind. I also have very little time to allocate to Android development as it's more of a hobby for me (sounds like the same deal with you). I'm hoping that once I open source my apps, the community will help make them better and I can start working in my next project (no idea what yet).

If you do have any good ideas, I'd be interested in hearing them - drop me an email: adam at everythingandroid.net

    Cheers,

    Adam
